The Olympiad Returns in 2026:
Run for Recovery
August 14–16, 2026
Registration Is Now Open — Join Us for Run for Recovery 2026
After a year of rebuilding following Hurricane Helene, the Hickory Nut Gorge Olympiad is proud to return in 2026 with a renewed purpose — Run for Recovery, August 14–16.

Registration is now open for two of the Gorge’s most iconic races:
-
Slam the Dam 10K
-
Race to the Rock 5K — the unforgettable climb up, up, UP to the top of Chimney Rock
In addition to the races, the weekend will also feature a Golf Tournament at Rumbling Bald Resort, bringing athletes, families, and the community together to celebrate resilience, connection, and progress.
A Thoughtful Approach for 2026
While the triathlon and cycling events will pause this year, this decision reflects our commitment to doing things right. The Olympiad Board wants to be fully confident that the lake, Lake Lure, and all supporting routes are completely restored and operating smoothly before welcoming athletes and families back for large-scale, multi-course events. We know participants plan well in advance, and we want everyone to do so with confidence.
Looking Ahead to 2027
The full Lake Lure Olympiad — including the triathlon — is planned to return in 2027, aligning with the 100th anniversary of the Town of Lake Lure. It will be a milestone year worth celebrating together. For now, we invite you to lace up, challenge yourself, and be part of something meaningful.
Register today and join us as we Run for Recovery.
swim for recovery
One Day. One Swim. One Lake. One Community.
On Friday, May 8, 2026, a private long-distance swim will take place on Lake Lure in celebration of the lake’s reopening and the resilience of the Hickory Nut Gorge community following Hurricane Helene.

This independently organized endurance swim is a meaningful way to honor the rebuilding efforts across our area and to inspire continued support for local recovery initiatives. While not an Olympiad-produced event, we are honored to help share this effort with the community.
Supporting Local Recovery
The Lake Lure Olympiad is serving as the donation vehicle for Swim for Recovery. All funds collected will be distributed by the Olympiad Board to local organizations supporting first responders and ongoing community recovery efforts throughout Hickory Nut Gorge.

How You Can Participate
The community is invited to:
-
Make a donation
-
Share encouragement
-
Support local recovery efforts
Every contribution strengthens continued rebuilding and renewal in
Lake Lure and the Hickory Nut Gorge.
