Packet Pick up/Registration: 6:00 am - 7:15 am The Historic Front Gate across from Chimney Rock Smokehouse
Participants are encouraged to park in the public pay lot - payment not required until noon.
Run Start: 7:30 am from the parking lot next to the Best View Motel site.

Race to the Rock 5K
Finish the Lake Lure Olympiad weekend on a high note—literally—with the Race to the Rock 5K on Sunday, August 16. Sponsored by and held at Chimney Rock State Park, this one-of-a-kind race challenges runners to climb toward one of Western North Carolina’s most recognizable landmarks.
This is no ordinary 5K. With approximately 900 feet of elevation gain from start to finish, the course will test your endurance, determination, and willingness to keep climbing. It’s steep, demanding, and incredibly rewarding.

Packet Pick-Up/Check-In/Registration
Race shirts will be distributed at packet pick-up. If you registered by the August 5 shirt deadline, please plan to store your shirt before the start or wear it during the race.

Check-In/Registration will be at the Historic Front Gate, across from Chimney Rock Smokehouse

Spectators/Volunteers may enter Chimney Rock State Park and park their vehicle in designated upper-parking areas until 7:15 AM. The road will be closed after that and no one will be allowed in.

EXITING THE PARK AFTER THE RACE

All participants of the Race to the Rock are invited for post-race snacks and refreshments immediately following the race at the finish line. Let’s celebrate!

After the race participants will be allowed to start walking back down the road, or they may wait for our shuttle buses to come and pick them up. If they have a guest who is staying to watch them race they can leave with that person, but everyone must exit after the two shuttle buses start to head down the mountain. If the bus catches up to them on the way down they will have to hop on.

After the race and awards, ALL spectators and participants will be required to exit the mountain.

Participants may visit the park on Sunday, August 16th, 2026, at no charge by showing their race bib at the ticket booth.

Policies & Refunds
There are no refunds for this race. This event occurs rain or shine. In case of lightening, we will delay the start.
Strollers and other child carriers are NOT allowed in the event.
*** Year after year the Olympiad provides a venue for athletes to come and test their abilities. We put a lot of effort into making this a special event for all participants. In addition, the Olympiad supports many area charities and service organizations. And like most races, we have a “No Refund” policy.
